11 - Managing a Spacecraft
Back to Rules Hub
- Once you have collected enough money for a spacecraft, you can buy one. However:
- You will need to have the required amount of crewmen. If the number of crewmen is one, then you can just buy it and pilot it straight from the start. However, if there are more, you need to go to a new adventure to find people (NPCs) who will be your crewmembers.
- To FTL to other systems, you will need exactly 1 fuel of the type that your ship uses.
- Types of Engines/Fuel:
- Tylium-Fusion "Ion" Drive
Most common in Colonial Sector ships, ion engines are easy to construct, are rugged and use a very common fuel, Tylium.
Tylium is an ore in it's natural state. It must be refined before used. Refining is done for free at any refinery ship, base, or spaceport. Found on asteroids only, tylium can be mined by pretty much any spaceship with the proper facilities. Ships powered by tylium are usually slower but heavily armoured.
To mine tylium, just post a movement to any asteroid field (a grid square), and state your intention. - Deuterium-Fusion "Impulse" Drive
Impulse drives are not less common than ion drives. Powered by deuterium, a more rare substance (an isotope of hydrogen removed from the oceans of most planets). Mostly found in Trek Sectors.
Deuterium can be found at any planetary base for around the same price as tylium. However, ships with impulse drives are usually faster and more maneuverable than the standard spaceship. Your ship can extract it from oceans as well, but it doesn't need to be refined.
To mine deuterium, just post a movement to any planet with water on it (planet name, and grid square), and state your intention. - Antimatter-Reactor "Reaction" Drive
Antimatter Reaction drives are much rarer than the others. Ships powered by antimatter have a bonus in nearly all aspects compared to other types - but are more expensive to operate.
Antimatter can ONLY be purchased, and then only on planetary bases.
- Tylium-Fusion "Ion" Drive
- Spacecraft have an infinite durability. (Unless they get destroyed)
- Upgrading a spacecraft in any aspect will cost 2000 Cubits.
- To upgrade, make a new thread on your character's boards titled the spacecraft's name. The main post will be it's stats. Make a new reply to that thread with, for example, "+1 Durability for 10 cubits". The mod/admin will approve it, take the money from your account and modify the main post to include the upgrade.
- You can upgrade spacecraft in the following stats (base value is always 0):
Armour
Weapons
Speed
Shields
Maneuverability
Stealth
EWAR/DRADIS (Computer Systems and Sensors) - Allow you to withstand EWAR attacks, allows you to perform EWAR attacks and expands the range and power of your detection systems
Imaging - Increases your character's skill at fighting in space
